The SusTech organizing committee is pleased to announce that UL Environment, of Marietta, GA has become a Diamond Level Patron.

As part of UL’s participation Mark Rossolo will be making a presentation Thursday afternoon on “Transparency in Electronics: Going Above and Beyond” in the Electronic Materials Track Session. UL Environment are also sponsoring the SusTech Reception and Poster Session on Thursday from 5:30-7:00pm. Drop by and have a free beer (drink ticket required, over 21). In keeping with our theme of sustainability, the reception will feaure beer (IPA and Single malt Nugget) from Hopworks Urban Brewery, winner of the Oregon Sustainability Board 2012 Sustainability Awards: Grand Champion:

“Hopworks Urban Brewery and Hopworks BikeBar are Portland’s first Eco-Brewpubs. They have 109 employees. Hopworks constructed both of their facilities with sustainability in mind. Their SE Powell location is a re-purposed industrial facility that used reclaimed materials. Energy efficiency was incorporated with efficient lighting, exhaust heat capture from pizza ovens, and high-efficient equipment. They offset 100% of their electrical consumption through Portland General Electric’s Clean Wind program. They have high standards for water efficiency, including industry-best practices in processing, rain-water capture systems, and pervious pavers. They supply 50% of the restaurant supplies by local, organic or certified sustainable producers and have several garden beds at sites for growing their own produce. They maintain zero-waste-to-landfill practices at both facilities, including sending the spent grain from mash ton to a local organic dairy farm for cow feed. The milk from the dairy farm then comes back and is served in the restaurant.”

A representative from Hopworks will be present to discuss their beers and answer questions.
