Abstract:

ESG and SDG have evolved into a confusing set of measures and reporting standards.  What exists today are competing standards for sustainability reporting.  There are numerous definitions, scorecards, and “sustainability” experts offering the right pathway to reaching the sustainability goals.  IEEE is supporting further development of Recommended Practices that will build on the existing P7010-2020 Standards and move forward a Roadmap to understanding and developing Action Plans that will RESULT in achieving the ESG/SDG goals, supporting ongoing innovation, and advancing the organization to meet the new challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

This session will present the assessment of current progress in meeting the Sustainability goals.  It will go further and report on the critical assessment that is identifying the barriers to progress and provide a better understanding of the multi-industry efforts needed to successfully transition to REAL SUSTAINABILITY.  It will present proposed strategies based on the excellent work of IEEE’s Sustainability Committee, under the direction of Rudi Schubert, and in defining the new Corporate Social Responsibility to advance humanity through technology.

Biography:

The Chair of the PAR 7010.1, Deborah Hagar, will present the work of this Working Group, the new strategies that are developing, and the goals for the Recommended Practices to be published in 2023.

Deborah has also established The Foundation for Sustainable Communities, a private non-profit organization that is driving economic growth and development of high-value jobs through the establishment of an Analytics Center of Excellence in partnership with IBM.  The Foundation is providing a model for multi-agency collaboration in economic development and education in direct partnership with private industry.  It unites industry/education/labor in development of the competitive skills required for today’s high-value jobs and to meet the demands of the growth industries of the future.   The Analytics Center is providing a digital network, advanced analytics, and industry expertise in key economic corridors of southern California. The Foundation enables both public and private sector organizations to leverage their resources and strategically collaborate on regional economic issues.

Ms. Hagar has 35 years business/management experience with demonstrated leadership and accomplishment.  For the past twenty years, her company has provided management and business solutions for organizations in multiple industries.  Her clients have included manufacturing and service companies, government, a wide variety of healthcare providers, and technology companies.  Ms. Hagar has established collaborative partnerships with Gallup Organization, Saratoga Institute, and Watson-Wyatt, in strategic initiatives.

Prior to the establishment of her own company, Hagar & Associates, Deborah worked in administrative/management positions in hospitals and health systems, and in project management positions in support of NASA projects for a leading aerospace company.   Mrs. Hagar has served as an Advisor to the Healthcare Advisory Board and to the National Sub-Acute Care Association and has addressed members of Congress on healthcare issues.   She has served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors during her 12-year service on the Board of Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Los Angeles.  Ms. Hagar is a Sr. Adjunct Professor with the University of LaVerne, where she has taught since 1980.

Deborah has served on the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier, the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce, Children’s Fund, the national Society for Human Resources Management, the California State Council for Human Resources Management (in collaboration with the California Chamber of Commerce), Arrowhead United Way, Chair of the City of San Bernardino Workforce Investment Board, and San Bernardino Special Olympics.  She has been a business lecturer for the American Management Association and a member of panel arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association.

She has been recognized in Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals, Who’s Who of America, Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in California Business, Who’s Who of Global Leaders, and Outstanding Young Women of America, and has been named Woman of the Year in 1993, for California 65^th District, and Third District Honoree in the County of San Bernardino by the Board of Supervisors and the Commission on the Status of Women in 2009.
