Technologies for a Circular Economy Workshop at SusTech 2025
SusTech 2025 is pleased to announce the that the IEEE Technical Activities’ Future Directions SusTech Initiative will be presenting a one-day pre-conference workshop on “Technologies for a Circular Economy” on Sunday April 20 from 8am-4pm PT.
The workshop will be hybrid and is included with SusTech registration. Registration includes access to the workshop, breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks.
Building a circular economy is becoming increasingly recognized as a means of achieving a variety of sustainability goals. From the long-term availability of natural resources, to the protection and recovery of ecosystems from global pollution, the benefits of such a system of production and consumption can be far-reaching, if implemented judiciously. This workshop will introduce the topic of circular economy and examine several areas where technological advances or scaling are needed. Expert presentations and discussion topics will include:
1. At the beginning of the economic cycle: the important topic of the availability of critical mineral resources used in electronics and battery products, including design for reuse/recycling;
2. During the manufacturing and consumption phases of the economic cycle: technologies to track components and products through, for example, “digital passports”;
3. At the end of the economic cycle: solutions for managing widespread waste and pollution, including the carbon emissions which now cripple our planet’s climate.
Our aim is to expand your knowledge, build connections, and brainstorm ideas which can help the IEEE build communities and resources to develop the solutions that are urgently needed.
For details see the Workshops page.
